Founding Engineer

LIFE builds autonomous life support infrastructure to enable humanity’s long-term presence beyond Earth. Founded by 17-year-old Behring Founder and scientific researcher Yandra Liz, LIFE will join Brazil’s aerospace delegation this September to connect with space agencies, industry leaders, and investors advancing the future of deep-space exploration.

About the role

You’ll design and prototype embedded systems from scratch—taking a concept and turning it into working hardware in weeks.

What you’ll work on

01Design PCB architectures for autonomous food production systems
02Program microcontrollers (ESP32, STM32) with production-grade C/C++
03Integrate environmental sensors (temperature, humidity, CO₂, light, nutrient levels)
04Develop automation logic for pumps, valves, lighting, and nutrient dosing
05Build telemetry and fault detection systems for autonomous operation
06Debug and iterate rapidly on physical prototypes
07Collaborate on systems architecture with the founding team

Who we’re looking for

You’ve built hardware before. You move from idea to prototype in days, not months. You’re comfortable with uncertainty and enjoy solving multidisciplinary engineering problems.

Required skills

  • Embedded systems development
  • PCB design (KiCad, Altium, Eagle)
  • Microcontroller programming (C/C++)
  • Sensor integration (I2C, SPI, UART)
  • Hardware debugging and power management
  • Rapid prototyping and systems integration

Nice to have

  • Robotics, drones, or IoT projects
  • Previous experiences with hardware startups or automation systems
  • Familiarity with NASA International Deep Space Interoperability Standards

We welcome candidates from anywhere. The role is fully remote for those outside the São Paulo area and hybrid or on-site for those based in São Paulo.
